Way Elementary Connection 09.18.2024

Dear Way Families,

The first full week of school was busy. Students are quickly adjusting to the full day and are learning routines and procedures to keep Way running efficiently. We have already witnessed new friendships, learning, and so much more. It is hard to believe we are into only our second full week of school.

Thank you for attending our Curriculum Night. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the curriculum, routines, and procedures, plus strengthen our partnership with families for the upcoming year and beyond. Your support is greatly appreciated.

In October, we’ll be kicking off Safety Week across the district. These specially designed days will help us strengthen safety practices within our school community. More details will be shared soon!

Our PTO has launched a very important event, The Fun Run. This is our biggest fundraising event. Please see the information below. Thank you in advance for supporting your school.

WELCOME NEW STAFF

Tiffany Sommer - .4 Speech Pathologist

My name is Tiffany Sommers, and I am a new speech-language pathologist at BHS servicing Way, Conant, and Bloomin’ West Preschool. I will serve at the building part-time and look forward to this school year. A bit about me: I am a graduate of Wayne State University, and I interned in Bloomfield Hills during my master's program. I love traveling to national parks, and my favorite hobbies are reading and crocheting.

ABC’s of Way Elementary Review: This week, we are featuring Absences, Allergies & Arrival

Absences

If your child is absent from school for any reason, please call the school attendance line at 248-341-7810

Allergies

Please notify us immediately if your child has any serious allergies and/or other health concerns. Way Elementary is a nut-restricted building that includes both common areas and classrooms.

Some classrooms may have additional food restrictions based on student needs.

Arrival

Our doors will open at 9:00 am. Please do not drop your child off at school before this time. Staff supervision is available at 9:00 am. Our first bell rings at 9:05, and the instructional day begins promptly after morning announcements. The side door (car drop-off) closes at 9:10, which gives our staff time to get to their classrooms and begin working with our students. If you arrive after 9:10, please park in a designated parking spot, walk your student to the main office, and sign them in. It is very important that students are not dropped off without adult supervision.

Safety Tip

Building Access: Please remember to never let another parent into the building or hold the door open for them, even if it feels awkward. This is especially important during student drop-off and pick-up times for Kidzone, both before and after school.

Explanation/Clarification

Why do some students get walked to their car?

Two families won the auctioned-off parking spots for the school year, including escorting to their cars. Look for these to be auctioned off again at our Parent Night Out.

Marge's Corner

Meet our magical therapy dog, Marge! She is by far the most popular staff member at Way. Our students and staff adore her - she is beloved by all.
