2026 Bloomfield Youth Assistance Awards
Each year Bloomfield Youth Assistance honors students and adults from our community who have proven to be outstanding citizens. On Monday, April 27, 2026, BYA celebrated 15 high school students, four middle school students, and two remarkable community members at the 2026 Outstanding Citizen Awards Ceremony. The reception and ceremony featured keynote remarks by Superintendent Rick West and individual speeches honoring each recipient.
BYA Chairperson Paulina Hakopian said, “Our annual recognition ceremony is always a special highlight. It is an opportunity to honor students who lead with empathy, positive character, and service to others. The recipients were nominated by community members, teachers, counselors, and friends who have seen their impact firsthand.” Award recipients were honored in one or more of the following categories:
- Performance of an act of heroism
- Providing exceptional service to an individual
- Achievement by an individual based upon overcoming a personal challenge while setting an example by assisting others
- The initiation of a new program or project to help others
- Exceptional service within an organization or club

“We are incredibly grateful to the Bloomfield Township Police Department and the Bloomfield Township Fire Department for their continued generosity in awarding scholarships to students who demonstrate outstanding service and determination," remarked Hakopian. Emersyn Lazor received a $1,000 scholarship from the Police Benevolent Association and the Fire Department Charities fund awarded $1,000 scholarships to Luke Atto, Caroline Reynolds, and Priyanca Skilton for their outstanding contributions to the community. Congratulations to all of the 2026 BYA recipients!
