Way Elementary Art Show
The halls of Way Elementary were adorned with student art pieces on May 21, in an open-house event showcasing many months of dedication and hard work.
Art teacher Sarah Schantz prepared for weeks organizing and hanging hundreds of pieces. Surfaces in the art and STEAM room displayed delicate clay pieces, while a darkened section of the hall featured neon drawings in blacklight. Students proudly shared their pieces with family members and explored the many other items made by classmates.
The event included a silent auction featuring a collaborative grade-level piece, “Teams Near Us,” along with a small gift basket of donated items. From Pistons to Lions to Bloomfield Black Hawks, each grade level created a unique masterpiece from dozens of small components pieced together to make the whole. The auction raised over $1,000, which will be used to purchase specialty art supplies for the school.
Many thanks to Sarah Schantz for the many hours spent putting this event together. Thank you to the Fantich family, Fried family, Way PTO, BHHS, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Blick Art Supplies for auction basket donations, and also to the Way PTO for the art show stipend. And a heartfelt thanks to all Way Elementary families, for supporting our many budding artists.
